Our practice is located
primarily in upstate New York during the spring, summer, and fall with
us traveling to Florida as needed during the winter.
We provide all levels of care for the performance horse and
work at many horse shows throughout the northeast.
We also travel with the United States Equestrian Team's
show jumping squad to many European shows and officiate at many FEI events |

Christina S Cable, DVM,
Diplomate ACVS
Dr. Cable grew up near
Atlanta, Georgia and spent most of her life involved with show horses.
After finishing her undergraduate education at the University of Georgia,
she attended the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine,
graduating in 1994.
After spending several months
working in County Kidare, Ireland at a prominent equine practice, she left the
warmth of the Southeast, to start a one year surgical internship at Cornell
University. After surviving the frigid north, she stayed on to
complete a three –year residency at Cornell University in large animal surgery .
While finishing a one –year surgery staff position, she became a Diplomate of
the American college of veterinary surgeons in 1999.
Dr. Cable’s main practice
interests include all aspects of performance horse medicine and she has a very
special interest in pregnant mare care and foal care. She is also
very involved with Shelter Outreach Services – a local non-profit which
provides veterinary services for local animal shelters to provide high quality,
high volume, low cost spay & neuter services for companion animals.
In addition, she is also a regular volunteer for RAVS ( Rural area veterinary
services ) which provides veterinary care in rural Native American reservations
throughout the western US.
Dr. Cable lives in Lansing, NY
with her husband and several cats. When not working, she enjoys
photography, fossil hunting and riding. |

Michael A Ball, DVM
Dr. Ball, a New York native,
fell in love with horses at the New York State Fair when he was just 14 years
old. After one week of cleaning stalls at the fair, he was grooming horses at
the Big Eastern States Exposition in Springfield, Mass.
Before starting his
undergraduate career, he spent six years grooming professional show jumpers at
Hunterdon Farm, in Hunterdon, N.J.
Dr. Ball graduated from
Cornell University's college of Agriculture in 1987 and then graduated from
Cornell's college of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. He completed an internship in
Large Animal Medicine & Surgery at the University of Georgia, followed by a one
year position in large animal anesthesia at UGA. Dr. Ball then spent two years
completing a Large Animal Internal Medicine Residency at Cornell University. He
was then a staff veterinarian for 4 years at Cornell University also while
working for the USEF as a Team Veterinarian.
He started Early Winter Equine
in late 1999 with his wife, Dr. Cable. Dr. Ball loves traveling with horses
and all manner of horse shows and is a serious Sci Fi fanatic!

Leslie L. Brewer, DVM
Dr. Leslie Brewer
joined Early Winter Equine in August
2007. She received her veterinary degree from Ross University in 2005 after
completion of her clinical year of veterinary medicine at Cornell
University.
Dr. Brewer grew up in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, and has
been very involved with horses for most of her life. She grew up riding and
competing mostly hunters/jumpers. Dr. Brewer attended Virginia Tech for
her undergraduate education and then worked as a yearling manager at a large
Thoroughbred breeding farm in Lexington, Kentucky and as a Veterinary
Technician before deciding to become a Veterinarian.
Following graduation, she moved to Virginia and completed a one
and a half year internship in sports medicine and diagnostic imaging with
Dr. Kent Allen at Virginia Equine Imaging in Middleburg, Virginia. Leslie
traveled to Ocala Florida for three months during her internship and had the
opportunity to work with many of the top United States and Canadian three
day event team horses.
Leslie has also been a treating veterinarian at
numerous three day event competitions in the United States including Radnor,
Fair Hill, NAYRC, Virginia, and Rolex. She has a special interest in
lameness and diagnostic imaging.
Her favorite activities include riding, scuba diving,
travel, and spending time with her dog Splash, who she brought back from the
Caribbean. Dr. Brewer became Dr. Brewer upon her marriage to Dr. David
Brewer, also a veterinarian, in May 2008.
